Can anyone recomend a trans-friendly singing teacher in Melbourne?

2 like 0 dislike
Hey,

I'm a pre-T trans guy, already a trained musician. I've always wanted to sing, and I figure while I'm going through hormone related changes I should look after my voice.

On that note, can anyone recommend a good vocal teacher in Melbourne?

Inner suburbs or public transport accessible preffered.

I like and perform in jazz, funk, soul, ska, reggae kind of styles, so a teacher geared more towards that would be preferable, but my main aims will be to develop a good male singing voice while my voice breaks from T.

Welcome to ZBGC's Questions and Answers website smiley

We've passed your question onto our networks and hopefully you will get some responses out of this.

One organisation that may know of some singing teachers is the La Trobe Communication Clinic. They run speech therapy services for people who want to have voice therapy as part of their transition. You can look up their contact details in our Resources Directory.

Good luck!

The ALSO Directory is a directory "for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer friendly businesses, support and community organisations" in Victoria. It sometimes lists singing teachers.

Check it out here:

I second Sally's recommendation of Emily Hayes. She is a fantastic teacher, located in Brunswick.

She also facilitates several choirs.
